As an alternative to walking, there are several ways to get around London
using public transportation:
  • The Tube - The London subway (Underground) system is the fastest and most efficient way to get around town. With stations located near all of the most famous attractions, savvy visitiors can take full advantage of this time-saving mode. Tickets for a single ride are available, as are daily and multi-day Travel Cards that also include the surface bus system.

  • Buses - While bus transportation is cheaper than the Tube, there are several drawbacks worth considering. Buses must still travel through the considerable London traffic congestion and are therefore inherently slower. They do not run quite as frequently as the Underground, and the scheduling can be difficult to understand.

  • Taxis - London's famous black taxis are easy to spot, available nearly everywhere, and offer courteous door-to-door service. They are, however, subject to the same congestion that slows all of London's surface transportation. Expensive for a single rider, a taxi fare divided among 3 or 4 people is much more reasonable.
