This is a short list of the historic cemeteries within London.

BROMPTON CEMETERY Managed by The Royal Parks, this cemetery was first opened in 1840. Its formal layout and beauty have enabled this otherwise tranquil ground to be featured in more than a few well-known movies. Free.

BUNHILL FIELDS CEMETERY Very old cemetery, famous for "the non-conformist"
persons buried here, such as John Bunyan, Daniel Defoe, and William Blake among others. Also known as the cemetery of Puritan England. Free.

HIGHGATE CEMETERY High Victorian woodland cemetery, first opened in 1839.
Numerous ornate and famous tombstones including George Eliot and Karl Marx.
Guided tours available. Charge.

KENSAL GREEN CEMETERY Eccentric Victorian cemetery dating back to 1833.
Numerous free-standing mausoleums and catacombs beneath the chapel. Resting place of Freddie Mercury and William Thackeray, among 250,000 Londoners. Charge for tour.
